Friends of the River

The Aire Rivers Trust believes in empowering local communities to take ownership of their river. We support a number of Friends Of groups working on the river and it’s tributaries. We offer equipment loans, skilled staff to lead volunteer days, insurance cover, training and help with funding bids. Please get in touch and we can help you to start your local group.

If there is not a local "Friends of ..." group and you really want to help your local section of river you can become a riverfly monitor or volunteer on one of our regular riverbank activity days.

Friends of Bradford's Beck FoBB

Friends of Bradford’s Becks (FoBB) was one of the first local groups we supported. FoBB works to improve what was one of Bradford’s most hidden and neglected becks, Bradford Beck, and its tributaries. Their work ranges from litter picks to lobbying Bradford Council to improve the beck. Thanks to them a series of plaques marks the course of the Beck as it flows, often unknown and unnoticed, under the city centre with poetry.

River Worth Friends

River Worth Friends was set up in 2017 with the support of Keighley Big Local. Urban stretches of the Worth are home to wild trout, grayling, dippers, kingfishers and riverflies. River Worth Friends run monthly Friday cleanups with our support. Their Riverfly Monitors monitor invertebrates within the river to check for pollution levels. They are doing a fantastic job of raising the profile of their local river.

Supporters Facebook Group

We have an active Supporters group on Facebook.

Join a community of river users and admirers with a shared interest in improving and understanding our river. A friendly and chatty group open to all. This is where you will find up to date information on our volunteering events.
