In partnership with Skipton Wellbeing Walks, we are delivering river walks along the River Aire.
To celebrate World Fish Migration Day this double loop walk will explore the scenic river around Saltaire and showcase the DNAire fish pass installed on the Salts Mill Weir.
A double loop walk from Saltaire Train station exploring the River Aire as it passes through this World Heritage Site, during World Fish Migration Day.
The first short flat 1.5mile section initially heads East out of Saltaire on the canal and river taking in the Aire Sculpture Trail to Baildon Bridge. Returning via Baildon to take in the Saltaire Fish Pass, in Roberts Park. The route is on well-made paths and includes one flight of steps with a handrail.
The second 3.5-mile route follows the river from the fish pass to Hirst weir, then climbs away from the river to explore the foot of Shipley Glen and Trench Meadows. Then returns to the river for a walk to Dowley gap. With a return leg through Hirst Woods and the canal. Walking is on flat un-made paths with 2 stiles, a flight of steps with handrail and some short steep banks to negotiate.
Meet Saltaire Train Station 11:00am. Take the 10:17am Train from Skipton.
Participants are advised to wear walking boots, warm and waterproof clothing. Packed lunch and drinks are required, alongside any personal medication needed. The use of walking poles is recommended.
