The Aire Rivers Trust believes in empowering local communities to take ownership of their river or beck. Alongside our own weekly practical conservation days and Riverfly Monitoring project, we and our partners support a number of ‘Friends of …’ and Local Action Groups working on the river and its tributaries. These groups bring together the local community to undertake river-related activities such as practical conservation, litter picks, riverfly monitoring and pollution monitoring.

The interactive map below links to existing local action groups working to improve the River Aire and its tributaries.
If there is not a local action group nearby, you could set up a group

Alternatively, you can become a riverfly monitor with us, or volunteer on one of our weekly practical conservation days.

Is your local action group missing from the map? Let us know by emailing us and we will make sure your information is up to date. A quick update ensures that your activities are recognised and helps volunteers find your group.

Whether you are part of an existing local action group or thinking of starting a new one, the Aire Rivers Trust can provide practical support. We can offer equipment loans, skilled staff to lead volunteer days, training, help with funding bids, and signposting to other support.
Please get in touch and find out how we can help your group!

We have active groups on Facebook, Instagram and
Linked In. Join a community of river users with a shared interest in improving and understanding our river. These are friendly and chatty groups open to all, where we share more about our activities improving the River Aire and its becks. We even have a YouTube channel!
